Chasing The Next Win

You know gambling is hurting your life. You know you need to stop. So why is walking away so difficult?

For years, author Jason Himes struggled with gambling addiction. He experienced the excitement of winning, the desperation of chasing losses, the financial consequences, and the frustration of promising himself he would stop—only to find himself gambling again.

He knew what gambling was costing him. Yet knowing wasn't always enough to make him quit.

Chasing the Next Win combines Jason's personal experiences with research into gambling addiction, the psychology of betting, and the systems that make gambling so difficult to resist. From casino slot machines and lottery tickets to sports betting apps, this book explores how gambling captures attention, influences decisions, and can gradually take control of someone's life.

But understanding the problem is only the beginning.

Inside this book, you'll discover:

• How to recognize when gambling has become a problem

• Why chasing losses and seeking the next big win can be so difficult to stop

• How casinos, slot machines, and sports betting apps are designed to encourage continued play

• Why gambling addiction affects more than your bank account

• Practical ways to reduce access to gambling, including self-exclusion and financial safeguards

• Strategies for managing urges and getting support

• How to respond to relapse without giving up on recovery

• Ways to begin rebuilding your finances, relationships, and trust

Written with honesty and compassion, Chasing the Next Win doesn't promise an easy cure or pretend that recovery happens overnight. Jason shares his own struggles, including setbacks, while offering information and practical steps that can help readers move toward a different future.

Whether you're struggling with gambling yourself or trying to understand someone who is, this book offers perspective, encouragement, and a path toward meaningful change.

You cannot change the bets you've already placed. But you can decide not to place the next one.
